Bill Cat. 2 and growing...

Hurricane Bill will likely become the season's first major storm during the day on Tuesday, but all computer models recurve this system long before it threatens the United States. In fact, models are forecasting more east coast troughs coming for the rest of this month !!! That will keep us protected from any powerful storms that form out in the Atlantic. However, those troughs will also bring down weak fronts into the Gulf and that might be how/where our next storm forms? For now lets relax and hope for those stronger, colder September cold fronts.

Check out the new IMAP feature on www.fox8live.com. We got into the web site game late, but thanks to Chris Finch, our webmaster, I think you'll enjoy seeing the same FOX 8 weather graphics that you are used to seeing on TV.

You still think it is going to Lake Charles Caveman?

Looking at the WV loop of the Atlantic the Bermuda High looks a little stronger than it did this morning which leads me to believe Bill will continue to take a more WNW track in the short-term and I would be getting a little nervous if I lived in the Northern Lesser Antilles because it could be a close call and a direct impact there would be very bad. Later this week, however, a Trough is forecasted to slide off the East Coast of the United States which would erode the Western Periphery of the Bermuda Ridge and allow Bill to turn Northward and could eventually brush New England. This is still 5 Days into the future so we need to see if things play out the way the models are showing and as you may know, 5 Day forecast don't usually pan out exactly as forecasted.

I was watching your broadcast as usual Bob tonight and I could help but notice that you were hoping for an Early Fall. That certainly isn't out of the question. I was talking to a family member that has lived in Toronto for nearly 25 Years now and he said that the trees are already shedding their leaves. "Normally" he said, the trees usually don't do this until Mid-September up there.

Just thought you maybe find that interesting...

Until next time,

I am very ready for sweater weather!! I am sick of hurricanes! Although, I do enjoy the blog this time of the year! Bob, do you think we are going to have a mild winter? Is it too soon to tell?

In the words of old coach Mora...Winter? did you say Winter? Golly, summer doesn't end until Sept. 21st. Let's see if my oak trees start producing lots of acorns like last year. Better yet, what does the farmer's Almanac say? Winter? You gotta be kiddin'?

I remember several years ago...I believe a year or so before Katrina. We had an August Cold front come thru that felt like an October front. Unheard of for that time of year...My thinking was if we got a cold front this early, we ought to have an earlly fall and cold winter...That year we didn't get another cold front well into November, it was hot for Halloween and it seemed like forever for the fronts to get thru. I am wondering with the fronts we have been having these past two months, will a similar pattern exist this year.

Onlyreal, you're another Bob in the making...keep up the excellent analysis.

Trabae, I am all for cool fronts in September and October...Opening the window and letting the cold air in...as my brother says..free air conditioning...

Funny how we had a tropical system hit exactly 40 years after Camille hit...I was 7 then, while I don't remember the night before, I remember going in the backyard the next day and seeing all the damage...dad told me not to go wondering off because there may be down powerlines.

Speaking of storms...same can be said about Hurricane Gustav...while it didn't hit on the same date as Katrina..it hit on the same day (Monday) 3 years later.

Why can't tv meteorologist issue weather warnings?

Bob, looks like most attention is on Bill(understandably), however Ana although being a low, looks alive and well. The satellite picture although dwindled looks like it could redevelop. If it does, are they still expecting that it will curve east?

Bob Breck said...

Just looked at the hi-res 1 KM vis of what's left of Ana & there are NO SIGNS of a closed low level circulation. In addition, there is an upper low to its west. Forget about her as NHC says..."low probability" of any regenerization.

The NWS is the agency that issues weather warnings. They cannot be sued...they're the government. On the other hand, IF a TV meteorologist issued a warning that was false & caused harm to an individual, you'd bet it would be "one call, that's all" ! I may disagree with NWS?NHC, but I always will show their information first before rendering my opinion. If nobody ever gave their opinion, then there would be no need for 4 different channels. We'd all be just weather reporters.

Wasn't accuweather trying to privatize the NWS and take over at one point?

A Senator from PA. (AccuWeather's home state) tried to pass that law, but it went no where.
