During my 32 summers forecasting weather here in New Orleans, I can only recall 1 or 2 other Augusts where we had fronts push down into the Gulf (1983 being one). The front coming this weekend is by far the strongest and should sweep all the Gulf muggies far offshore resulting in a terrific weekend for outdoor activities. Nah, it's not gonna feel cooler, just less hot...especially at night & on the North Shore. Does this indicate signs of a coming cold winter? According to AccuWeather's Joe Bastardi (Yea that really is his name), he believes this winter will be a doosey with lots of snow for the Northeast. With an El Nino getting stronger, we're likely to see a colder than normal Fall & Winter with lots of rain & who knows...maybe some of da white stuff?
Hurricane Bill is turning more to the north so he should not impact the U.S. except for some high surf along the east coast. The tropics have gone quiet out in the Atlantic. We need to monitor the Gulf as the front pushes farther down over warmer waters. None of the models are showing any development. I'm planning a Saturday bike ride since the weather should be so nice. Enjoy your weekend.

Hey Bob thanks for the good news. Originally coming from the NE myself, Brooklyn to be exact, I sometimes miss the cold winters and especially a little bit of snow.
And enjoy your bike ride this weekend, I recently added the link to this site to my own website- a site for my mobile repair business www.nola-bikes.com
Enjoy the weather while it lasts and we'll all continue to keep our fingers crossed these next few weeks!
This is so Incredible as I had thought my girlfriend moving here from New Jersey would rethink after a typical NOLA summer.
The last time we had a front of this magnitude move through SE LA at this time in August was in 2004.
Onlyreal, I knew you'd have the year for me, thanks...I cited that front a few blogs ago...so it was August of 2004 when we had that August cold front which felt like an October front...after that front it seemed like forever since we got into that rhythm of getting cold fronts down here...lets hope it doesn't repeat.
Cut Grass today to take advantage of the lower humidity....Went swimming afterwards...Yesterdays rain cooled off the water temp drastically. Oh I'd have a temp for you all, if any of my children who fess up on what happened to my broken thermometer this year and I refused to buy a new one this late in the swimming year.....but today swim still did the trick and cooled me off.
Tomorrow morning ought to be very nice temp wise.
Go Saints.
No problem, Bourbon St. Blues!
I personally think that there is a better than normal chance that it will snow here this winter. But first we need to see if anything comes our way in September, that's when I feel we have the best chance of seeing a threat.
Dang it was low humidity today? I thought was hot when I went to Metairie at 5 pm...Is tomorrow Sunday at 6 pm gonna be any less humid than today? I need to go to the French Quarter to do some photography and I and my hopes up already! :)
Well now that I think about it I didn't sweat doing photos today, I guess it was lower humidity...
Bring it on..coooold winter yes!!!!!
We need to watch the Bahamas for Tropical Trouble in about 3-5 Days.
ONLYREAL and Caveman same person
Bob,
Caveman is lying and he is a Troll. I am NOT him, nor would I ever want to be like him in a million years. Please don't believe his propaganda.
ONLYREAL
Good Lord, do you see the size of that upper low heading to the Bahamas? It's gigantic! Keep it in the upper levels...
Only Real caveman loves to stir the pot...ignore him.
Beans I can't ignore myself?
Yea Beans I am going to ignore him. I'm not falling for his childish ways.
Satellite derived winds are indicating a good low level of cyclonic flow in the area of the wave axis. The wave is also ahead of a deep layer of moisture shown in total precipitable water images. I (ONLYREAL) believe a dry saharan air layer is just to the east of the axis which should inhibit any deep convection near this tropical wave. I still have the gut feeling we should see colder than normal temps this year and maybe just alittle of the white stuff!
CAVEMAN I will remove you again. This is my site not yours. Not a threat, but a promise & there will be no returning. Your call. Make my day!
