Looking at tonight satellite loops of the Gulf and Caribbean, one has to be impressed by the fast westerlies that are a killer for any tropical development. We can say with some degree of confidence that the next 5-7 days will have no storms in the Gulf or Caribbean. All we need is another 3-4 weeks of east coast troughs bringing more cold fronts cooling down water temperatures and then...even if a storms forms in the Gulf in October...we probably won't have to evacuate since is will be a weaker type storm. In fact, only the great hurricane of 1893 was a major Hurrciane that crossed the Louisiana coast in the first week of October. The rest were weaker storms. Looking at November, in modern history (past 150+ years) there has NEVER been a major hurricane cross the Louisiana Coast. I'm aware that there can always be a first time, but each day puts us closer to safety. Come on Fall !
Hey, is it just me, a weather geek, who is irritated at The Weather Channel with their "Wake Up With Al" stuff? Look, I watch the TWC for WEATHER. If I want business news, news headlines etc, I go to CNBC, CNN, FNC. I go to TWC for WEATHER. Am I being too critical here? If I want to watch Al Roker, I know he's on the TODAY Show. I don't need him trying to interplay with Stephanie Edwards to see who can be more amusing. As John Coleman (TWC Founder) must be saying...Give me back my WEATHER CHANNEL !

Thanks for the update Bob!
Is it still gonna be a low humidity day on Monday?
Leave it to NBC to ruin another channel...
"Wake up with Al" was the nail in the coffin for TWC. They are pathetic, When I watch them I usually laugh. The other day they had some nascar driver do the weather on "Evening Edition" and him, Dr. Steve Lyons, and Jim Cantore were racing in office chairs on Live Television.
And you know what the problem is? Its the fact that there is no competition for TWC. Somebody else needs to make a New Channel that focuses on Weather only. That should make them tighten up again, but it could very well be too late for them. But it is a good thing in a sense that TWC is going down the tubes. Mainly because people can depend on their local weatherman again for the forecast.
ONLYREAL
Bob, your the only one I trust to give me an accurate and truthful forecast. I did see Al on the commercial channel,AKA TWC, and thought the same thing as you. I also remember when the only thing you could get at McDonalds was a hamburger and french fries. Seems like everyone want to try to get in on someone elses action. Thanks for your hard work Bob.
hey, bob..
that's it...get a channel when you retire...and do the real weather...according to bob.....it is beyond twitter...when ever you want to broadcast...and get others when you don't want to broadcast..we can stay in touch...:)
Hurricane Hilda killed 37 people in Louisiana as a Cat 2 on October 4th, 1964.
