Less Daylight Equals Cooler Temps...

The deeper we get into November the more we see our record lows down below freezing. 2 things are at work here. 1) We have less daylight losing 1-2 minutes a day as we head towards the Winter Solstice next month. 2) the angle of the sun above the horizon gets lower every day as the Earth orbits the sun. Which is more important? Probably the second, but both go hand in hand in why we cool down as we head towards winter.

Models are finally becoming more progressive with troughs moving across the country over the next 2 weeks. Hint: Thanksgiving will not need the A/C ! Not right away though as we have another slow moving upper low that will take several days to exit the central part of the country. It should bring a cold front thru on Tuesday for us, but the real cold will stay well to our north.

what I love about November (besides the cooler temps) is that the grass stops growing!!!

Bob,

I think we are in a period of low sunspot activity, generally causing cooler average temps worldwide. Does this indicate another winter with record low temps? I know the relatives we have in Chicago said that they basically had no summer this year. Just recently we are seeing record lows and snow in Colorado.

What kind of forecast info for this winter have you gotten at the skull sessions of the Meteorological Society? I'll bet they play down the cooling scenario because most of them are proponents of AGW. Right?
