2 Dry Days...Then More Rain

The same weather pattern (El Nino) that gave us a below average season is, as expected, giving us a wet start to winter. During an El nino winter, the southern (sub-tropical) jet stream is more active bringing us storms every 3-4 days. It also prevents the real brutal cold from coming down into the Gulf South with some exceptions. Right now our next system will arrive Friday evening into Saturday with yet another system in late Monday into Tuesday. That cold front next week could be much stronger bringing with it some freezing temps. by Wednesday. Our high today was 72 compared to a snow storm raging over the central plains to the upper Great Lakes. I like living in the South in the winter!

Yeah no doubt. I lived in Boulder for a couple of years and everyday living in true winter can be horrible. I'll admit for those who do not know snow should think it's fun, pretty, and new; and it goes away pretty quick. But digging your car out everyday means getting up a half hour early, insanity causing slow driving, and constant adding of 5 layers then removing then adding etc... The summer may pass slow here, but I'll take pre summer and post summer over true winters any time any day.

Bob,

Even considering what looks like record cold temps and snow across the country, the MEDIA (TV, internet, newspapers)seems to be reeling and scrambling to keep "global warming" in the forefront ahead of Copenhagen. Last night, Brian Williams presented a piece on melting glaciers in Peru, naturally blaming it on AGW. In today's Picayune, there was a article where the World Meteorological Organization (which is a UN org), is proclaiming the climate to be the warmest decade in HISTORY. This sounds like bunk to me. I'm not certain but I think WMO uses the data supplied by the IPCC, the same clowns guilty of fudging temp data and conspiring through e-mails. We know that the last two years WERE NOT the warmest in history. Actually, cold and record snow amounts were recorded last year in many parts of America alone.

Now we have all of this AGW promoting in spite of the damaging e-mails AND what appears to be the coldest and nastiest winter on record. With record cold temps the last few years, why would there be massive glacier melting from other than normal temp fluctuations worldwide? Normal thinking folks should know that things MAY NOT be what they appear to be.

If WMO uses IPCC data, why should anyone place faith in those figures? Good question, but the EX-STREAM media is doing their best to brainwash. Do you see what's going on?

Just a follow up on my first post regarding the Brian Williams piece last night on the Peru glacier melting. If you go to www.iceagenow.com/Growing Glaciers.htm, you'll see a huge list of the glaciers that are growing. Funny those AGW folks never bring this up.

What's even funnier about that NBC Nightly News show, is that RIGHT BEFORE the melting glacier story, Brian Williams had a piece on the HUGE system and snow storm affecting one half of the country and how early it was for this AND in places that either never had snow or never had it this early.

I couldn't stop laughing. Surely, Brian's staff must have been pulling a joke on him.

After 1975, glacier shrinkage continues to accelerate until present. The mass loss from 1996 to 2005 is more than double the mass loss rate in the previous decade of 1986 to 1995 and over four times the mass loss rate over 1976 to 1985. When you narrowly focus on a few cherry picked glaciers, you can be misled into an incorrect view of global glacier trends. When you take in the broader picture, you see that globally, glaciers are shrinking at an accelerating rate. Handfull of growing glaciers is hardly evidence of the earth cooling. And to the current snow and cold temps in the north... well it's called WINTER!

Caveman..."glaciers are shrinking"...You are correct. I think they call that a warming CYCLE. Back in the 1600s,1700s & early 1800s glaciers were growing during the Little Ice Age...a cooling CYCLE. Your point is ?

Caveman, cherry picking is exactly what the MEDIA and YOU are doing. You are saying so yourself by listing what the MEDIA lists. The Earth is always going through changes that are still to this date not understood by man. Some glaciers are growing and some melting. How do you think Greenland got it's name? Why not name it Iceland II if it has always been frozen? Why do they only report on the melting ice in Antartica DURING SUMMER?

Do I beleive in taking care of Mother Earth? Yes I do. But I also beleive we can use her valuable resouces as long as it is managed correctly. But to have Scientists FLAT OUT LIE and forge documents I think that shows they have a certain agenda and it is not a good one.

Thank you, Bob. Additionally, during the Medieval Warming Period (AD 700-1,300)that preceded the Little Ice Age (AD 1560-1830), there was no doubt some glacial shrinkage occurred. As you say, it recovered in the Little Ice Age.

During the Medieval Warming Period, there was no source for man-made global warming, although warming occurred. The problem with AGW alarmists is that they don't have the word "cyclical" in their vocabulary.

If we end up having a colder than average winter again this year, and there is an OVERALL increase in ice for 2009, what will you guys say then, Caveman?

Caveman said...

You guys are caught up on a handful of scientists that say the earth is not warming, but the majority of them with no political agendas etc. say it is. The fact that the earth is warming again which is proven without a doubt from the melting artic ice (yes some ice in small amounts is growing in other places) and rise in SEA temps should put this to rest. The problem that scientist have and the world is the RATE that warming is taking place. The rate has increased outside the norm.. Again just a handful of people that say the earth is not warming does nothing when you have thousands of scientists worldwide that say otherwise. You guys are diving for apples..

If we have an OVERALL increase in ice for 2009 then we have much more to worry about ....

A pic of that weather observation next to pavement affecting its readings would be great.

By the way where is FOX 8 doplar radar located?

"but the majority of them with no political agendas etc. say it is."
LMAO they don't have a political agenda!?!

It's all about money and wealth redistribution ie" Al Gore, Obama, UN!

Did u know that Al Gore's mansion uses IN A MONTH TWENTY TIMES what the average household US use in ONE YEAR!!!

Caveman... will try to locate the article regarding the bad siting of weather stations across the country & world. As to the "handful" of scientists...WRONG. It's more like thousands...and to say the AGW scientists have no "political" agenda...perhaps correct. Their agenda is to keep the gravy train of grant money flowing. We don't dispute a warming CYCLE. We dispute what is/did cause it.

I never said that any warming was caused by man, just that it is occuring at increasing rates and that is what has scientists concerned.

How much energy do you think the SuperDome uses?

All you have to say is there is no such thing as man made global warming...end of story.

I am still waiting for all the GW activists to produce and/or wipe out a hurricane and to keep one from coming here..or maybe even from keeping a glacier from melting.
