Did some research today and found that, aside from a 2 week stretch in late January, this has been a very chilly 2010 so far. Of the 1st 48 days of this year, 13 have been above normal, 2 on the normal and 33 below normal. All 18 days of February have been below normal with not one day reaching 70 or above. We do have 2 opportunities to top 70 this weekend IF we can get into some sunshine. If not, we may go the whole month with no 70 degree day since another blast of cold air is setting to return for next week. It's pretty much what an El Nino pattern brings to the Gulf South...above normal rains and below normal temps.
The Mississippi River finally crested on Monday but it's still way above long term averages. That's important since the Spring snow melt is just around the corner up north. Unless we see a steep drop during the next 2 week coupled with no major rain/snow storm across the Ohio & Miss. River Valleys, then it's likely the spillway will need to be opened sometime in April.
