Cold, Crummy February to Continue...

Well, we did not top 70 this weekend and unless we do on Monday (unlikely), we will end up ZERO for February. Of the first 21 days, 3 have reached normal/average while 18 have been below normal. Heck, we had 6 days in January that topped 70. Looking at the models for this coming week indicates we'll see several Gulf lows bringing rainy periods followed by more cold air. Nah, you snow freaks don't get too excited as it looks like the moisture will be gone before we get deep into the cold air. But stranger things have happened so far this winter...could we see snow 3 times on the Northshore? How about 4? If the storms take a more southern track, who knows?

In the short term, after tonight's rumble of thunder, Monday might see a left over shower early with some clearing taking place during the day. If the sun comes out soon enough we could be back into the mid-upper 60s. The real cold arrives on Tuesday and stays the rest of the week. Might be more freezes on the Northshore.

CAVEMAN...The top climate official of the IPCC that resigned is a fella named Yvo de Boer. The fella you named has the title of President (I think) of the IPCC. He is still there.

"Going back to an active pattern"

We are going to go back to a wet pattern after a week of dry weather during the Mardi Gras Holidays. A lot of us has some rain yesterday evening, maybe even some Hail if you lived in certain area's of Kenner and Metairie. Yesterday's thunderstorms were the result of a little upper level disturbance that passed through the area.

This morning, a Cold Front will move through the area. It will take a little time to notice the changes, however, by this evening dew points should be all the way down into the 40's(good feel air). High's today will be in the mid 60's, again, the temperature change with this front will not be dramatic. Today we will likely remain partly to mostly cloudy, we should see clearing skies by this evening. Tonight you will need to break out the sweaters/jackets if you plan on going out; lows will be near 41 on the SS and near 38 on the NS.

Overall, Tuesday should be a beautiful day. Tuesday will be sunny for the most part, with the exception of some high Cirrus Clouds thanks to the Sub Tropical Jet Stream. High's should top out in the upper 50's across the area. Unfortunately, clouds will begin to increase in coverage Tuesday Night. Low's will be in the upper 30's to around 40 across SE LA.

Shower's will begin to intrude the area in the wee hours of Wednesday Morning as a shortwave trough begins to move into the area. With this system will be a second surge of cold air, and it will be cold enough for snow for everybody as close as SE Texas and Central Louisiana. It will not be cold enough for any frozen precipitation here Wednesday Morning, we will just experience another cold, miserable, and dreary rain event. But we are already very familiar with that this winter. All rain will move out by noon Wednesday but we should stay mostly cloudy until around sunset. High's will struggle to get out of the 40's with winds out of the North at 15-20 mph. Again, it will not be a pleasant day. Once we clear out Wednesday Night temperatures should fall quite nicely. The North Shore will likely see another freeze while on the South shore we should drop into the low 30's.

Thursday will be a sunny, but chilly day. Temperatures will only rise into the mid 50's so you will need the jackets again. We should see some decent radiational cooling Thursday night and this will allow the North shore to fall near freezing again and the South shore should dip into the upper 30's.

Friday will be another chilly day with high's in the lower 50's. We should start off with only some high clouds Friday morning, however, we should see clouds increase throughout the day. What will be occurring is another upper level disturbance will move into the area. This disturbance will once again trigger a Gulf Low. This low looks to be able to draw in some pretty cold air on the back side. Right now I am going to call for a cold rain for Friday Night/ Saturday Morning, however, if the Surface Low is able to track a little bit further south we could get on on some snow. This is definitely something we need to keep an eye on this week. Saturday Evening and the majority of Sunday looks nice, but chilly. Clouds will be on the increase Sunday evening as we begin to feel the effects of an other developing Gulf Low, and there is a pretty high confidence level in this happening, but it is just a little too far out for today's forecast writing.

Plenty of -20's and 30's in Canada this morning! Let the cold air begin building!

Now for us on the Southshore, we have had several instances where we could have gotten a bit of snow but didn't. Are we looking at two more instances where we could POSSIBLY get a few flakes before this winter is over. Looking like Wednesday and Saturday looks to be the best chances for Southshore snow. Is that correct BOB and ONLY REAL? I sure could sit by my fireplace on Saturday watching the snow fall outside!!! Let's just hope we may get lucky this time!

Though he said Copenhagen "wasn't what I had hoped it would be," he said the frustration over the summit was not responsible for his decision to quit. Rather, it was time to seek new challenges. "I took this job to see the launch of negotiations on a global response to climate change," he said in an interview. "I feel that's happened. ... I think things are on track."

Looks like he didn't resign because his views have changed on climate change but rather all the bickering among nations to come to an agreement on it. He is still working with climate change just in the private sector now.

You are correct CAVEMAN...He left for the "private sector". Translation...where the money is. Ask Al Gore. These guys are pressuring countries into creating vehicles/devices (Cap & Trade) that will make themselves wealthy while not cutting CO2 at all. Thank goodness for Climategate or we won't know what they were up to.

Wait did I read Bob say Caveman was correct...must be the reason why all this cold air has been around this February.

I think someone ought to play Al Gore Cuba Gooding saying his Show me the Money!!!

Yes OnlyReal thanks for the detailed extended forecast for the week as usual!!! It was nice to see that dry weather for Mardi Gras, most all parades rolled on their scheduled day/night, including mine Caesar. Oh my, my Who Dat sign was a big success, had plenty of people screaming WHO DAT for beads...I had a blast. It seems we all lucked out now that a rainy pattern is returning.

Haven't checked out Bob's forecast but when I got in my car around 2PM the temp read 70....must be global warming!!! At 4 it had dropped to 67.

Snow, Snow...if it does I want to see Caveman build a snowman and have him hold a sign up saying, "Due to global warming...." Caveman are you up for it???
