Where's Spring?
OK, I know it's early, but historically we should have already had 4 days in March above 70. So far we're ZERO for March, but that will change shortly as we will get into the 70s perhaps as soon as Tuesday. As a front brings drier air & west winds on Thursday, we could sneak our 1st 80 degree day? Don't get use to that since longe range models bring back the east coast trough for the weekend and next week resulting in temperatures once again below normal. We are now beyond the time of the year for any hard freezes, but we still can have lt. freezes and frosty mornings right on up to April. I would hold off on planting tomatoes until after the 15th. I did prune my critus trees last week and will spray them with oil this weekend along with my other bushes to control scale, mealy bugs and other vermin. Right now I'm trying to attract cardinals & bluejays to my bird feeder. ..however squirrels keep stealing the food. I trap 'em(3 so far) but more keep showing up. Any suggestions? I don't want to use rat poison, but I want birds not squirrels.

Squirrels will eat most kinds of bird seed, but there are a few they don’t like. Try using safflower seed. Many desirable birds like it while squirrels and many undesirable birds do not. Or mixing in some cayenne pepper into the food. The capsicum, the stuff that makes it hot, does not affect birds but will affect squirrels.
I live in Diamondhead, MS, and we have a real over-abundance of squirrels. Squirrel bales (concave plastic under the feeder) really do work! Also, I hang other feeders on thin but strong wire between trees. It's a real hoot to see the squirrels attempt high wire balancing acts to get to the feeders! They almost always fall off before reaching the feeder! And they're not harmed in the process! Hope this helps!

Leave french fries on the ground. The squirrels love fries and hopefully it will keep them on the ground and out of your bird feeders.

My Dad puts peanuts out for the squirrels and they love it. They do eat the sunflower seeds that fall to the ground.

Pellet gun and following recipe:
Bacon Wrapped Squirrel
~ squirrel legs, front or rear, amount depends upon how hungry you are
~ beer
~ garlic powder
~ pepper
~ salt
~ minced onion
~ hickory smoked bacon
Soak the legs in beer for 2 – 3 hours. Remove and drain.
Sprinkle to taste with garlic powder, pepper, salt and the minced onion.
Wrap each leg with bacon. Secure with toothpicks if necessary.
Place on hot grill. Cook over medium heat until cooked through.
Serve with your favorite sides.
