When The Weather Channel began in 1982, it was important they hire mainly people who had degrees in Meteorology or Atmospheric Sciences as they were trying to gain credibility. They succeeded over the years, but they have been on a down hill slide beginning with the death of Hurricane Expert John Hope. Fortunately they had Dr. Steve Lyons to take up the slack left by John and when Severe Storm specialist Dr. John Scaila left, they still had Dr. Greg Forbes. Now I read Steve Lyons is returning to the National Weather Service to head one of their local forecast offices. The problem is...TWC has NO ONE capable of filling Dr. Lyons shoes. They bill themselves as YOUR HURRICANE AUTHORITY. How can they do that now that Dr. Lyons is leaving? Steve has been a long time friend. I wish him well.
Still looking like a weak front will arrive before daybreak on Sunday. Still breezy Thursday before winds diminish Friday & Saturday. The muggies are back but drier air returns behind the front.

Bob, I agree with you, the Weather Channel has become nothing but a publicity outlet for Al Roker since NBC took it over...I cannot even watch it anymore, and that says a lot from this weather nut. Like NBC has lost all of its credibility with me, so goes TWC...
Guess that just means you'll have to postpone your retirement for a while longer!
I stopped watching TWC when Stephanie Abrams began using food to explain weather phenomenons. " Wake up with AL" and Dr. Lyons leaving was the nail in the coffin for TWC.
bob! where are you?!?!?? some other lady is on the tv right now and it's so weird! and you weren't even on at the hornets game the other night, wtf bob. come back.
sincerely,

p.s - please make t shirts.
Ole Steve headed to San Angelo, TX office..
Some very nice Thunderstorms have developed across the area today thanks to a frontal boundary that is situated right over the area. These storms are expected to diminish over the next few hours. There should be a little more moisture over our area tomorrow so expect the storms to return for tomorrow afternoon.
I will have a more detailed and more extended range forecast written for tomorrow morning.

After being being quite dry without any significant rainfall since March 10th we had some rain yesterday. Day-time heat combined with a stalled frontal boundary and an upper level disturbance allowed for numerous showers and thunderstorms to develop over the area yesterday evening. The frontal boundary is still over us this morning and with an other upper level feature moving in from the west, a chance for some more evening showers and thunder storms will be possible. Otherwise, today should be partly sunny and warm with High's in the upper-70's to low-80's.
The chance for showers and thunderstorms goes down significantly for Tuesday because the stalled front will be nearly gone and ridging will be building over our area. High's will not be much different on Tuesday.
Wednesday through Friday Morning, upper ridging will dominate the area so you should expect partly sunny skies very warm humid air. On these too days everyone should have no problems reaching the low to mid 80's.
Despite the nice weather over our area there will be trouble lurking just to our west. A strong upper level low is forecasted to move out the Rockies on Friday and a strong surface low will quickly develop over the Great Plains sending a cold front towards the Gulf Coast. And you know what that means, thunderstorms just in time for Jazz Fest. I am not going to forecast a washout right now for Jazz Fest Weekend, however, it will be the best chance of rain in a good while. I will keep on looking for any changes for this weekend.

Last Nights thunderstorm were well needed rainfall. I didn't expect them to come at night though...
Finally brushed, scouped out the leaves then shocked my pool over the weekend...its getting there. I want to get my water tested before I start with the Pristine Blue Chemicals. Good stuff makes keeping your pool crystal clear essy. But its good to start with proper PH and Alkalinity levels...I changed the sand in the filter last year.
Soo I am ready to go swimming. I know still too early.
I bought a new thermometer, lets see if it last more than the 2 weeks last years lasted.
Thanks OnrlReal for the update...I have been out of the loop with work, its good to be back...Sadly we have our Crawfish Boil at St. Edwards this Saturday evening...lets hope the rain holds up.
Tomorrow the Saints schedule comes out...lets see who we play that Thursday night...I'm betting on the Vikings...
I stopped watching the Weather Channel a long time ago along with most of the other weather segments. I only watch Bob Breck and his team now. The reason is this... those other channels just put numbers and words up on the screen and then read them. Well I can read. I don't need anyone to read to me. I enjoy watching Bob Breck actually talk about the weather and what he thinks. What an experienced weather man thinks is much more valuable then just being read to.
Burbon Street:
You were right on the money when you mentioned the Vikings opening our football season! and....I live close to St. Edwards... Is the crawfish boil open to the public...They have FINALLY gone down in price!!!
Nashette,
You had to pay in advance!!! Somehow they police it..
