I was away up north(Hammond, Ind.) this weekend making a surprise visit to my 85 year old Mother. They were in the 80s all last week, but as soon as I get there, butta boom, the wind shifts to the NNE and the highs struggled to get into the low to mid 50s. Burrr! The weather guy on local TV said "cooler by the lake". Hey buddy, I'm from da South now and it's COLDER by the lake to me! Always good to see my Mom and she looked remarkedly well. If only I didn't live so far from her. Thanks to my 2 sisters and her care givers for keeping her well.
Well it figures that our rain chances will go up again. After all, we have 2 big outdoor events this weekend.(Golf & JazzFest). It looks like the best chance for significant rainfall will come on Saturday, but there could be a few afternoon showers late Friday. We'll update as we get closer. The big change will be the "feel" to the air. The muggies will return in force by Friday and highs will start to feel almost hot (84-87). Have started to work on this year's Hurricane Preparedness Special. What are your greatest concerns? Levees? Evacuation? Shelters? What do you want us to cover?

Would love to see you cover shelter prospects for evacuations. FEMA will NEVER again pay for hotels, etc for evacuation people and most of us don't have enough money saved to stay in a hotel for 3 days or more so we will be very interested in seeing where they would expect us to go. Thanks for the info.
P.S. Hopefully we will NOT need to use your very valuable information but would like to be prepared just in case!
I would love to hear your thoughts/comments/information on any new details that have emerged about the new 'Storm Surge' model they started publishing last year when there was a threat.
Whatever you include, I know it'll be great info.
It would be great if you could express your opinion about the recent hurricane predictions from the scientists in Colorado, allocating 12 storms for 2010. Are they based upon accurate facts or just a shot in the dark?
I would like an update on the levees. After reading in the TP that they are raising the levee by the Causeway bridge and the effect on traffic this summer...They are doing the South bound traffic first which makes sense, since if we have to evacuate this summer it will keep the Northbound lanes free...I don't think they ever had contraflow on the Causeway.
So my main concern is the levees, what about all other levees thats protect us... are they ready?
I too am interested in the storm surge. You only have to look at Hurricane Ike a Cat 2 but seems it had a storm surge of a 4 or 5.
