We were under a tornado watch earlier, but it appears the severe threat has moved to our east and north. We remain in the warm air sector with deep tropical moisture, but it seems the upper energy has lifted well north. Also, the big overnight T-Storms that dumped extremely heavy rains(8-12"+) across Tennessee might have been caused by the upper trigger that we seem to be lacking presently. We will probably see some more showers later this afternoon and evening continuing off and on thru after daybreak. Finally, during the morning hours, the last of the showers should pull to our east allowing drier air to filter in for the next several days.
Regarding the oil leak/spill...the strong southerly winds will begin to relax this evening and turn more to the SW-W. That is good news for LA but bad news for states to our east. The high seas and choppy waters appear to have help disperse the oil concentrations with most oil remaining offshore. That is the good news. The bad news is 0il continues to leak from the rig/drill site with no signs of containment in site. The weather will cooperate for the first part of next week with offshore winds that will be fairly light.
