Alex becomes 1st Hurricane...

After being over the warm waters of the Gulf for almost 2 days, Alex finally has been upgraded to hurricane status, but he still remains somewhat ragged. The recon fly had to abort due to radar failure and they never did find hurricane force winds, but NHC is upgrading based on satellite views tonight. The current course will bring Alex inland well south of Brownsville Wednesday afternoon or evening. As he moves away from us, our winds and seas should decrease. Rain chances will stay high into the weekend as a weak front will stall over us and tonight's VIPIR model says low pressure will form right over us on Friday keeping us in a heavy rain threat thru most of the weekend. Again, Alex is now the season's 1st hurricane BUT he's going into Mexico away from us. Stay tuned to see if VIPIR is on to something forming later this week along the old front.

Alex is also I believe the first hurricane to occur in the month of June in the Atlantic basin since 1995! Season is off to an early start. Could this be a small taste of what is still to come?

I sure hope not Caveman! Most of Metairie is flooded this afternoon and it looks like there is still lots more rain in the gulf moving inland.(Heavy sigh)!!! and...I was hoping for a dry weekend but according to Bob, it may turn out to be wet!
