Keep the TUTTs Coming...

The season 1st real tropical wave crossing the Atlantic reached the Windward (Barbados) Islands this afternoon. NHC gave it a 10% chance of developing, but it has encountered strong westerly wind shear tonight and has fallen apart. The shear is due to a well defined Tropical Upper Tropospheric Trough (T.U.T.T.) that should keep this 1st month of the Hurricane Season quiet. Dr. Masters on WeatherUnderground says La Nina is developing much like the summer of 1998. That year we had 15 named storms and the season didn't get started until August 20th! So I'm hoping we'll see another late starting season this year, especially since we don't need any storms in the Gulf tossing that oil back towards the coast. Keep the TUTTS coming !

In the short term, our early heat wave is likely to continue into next week as an upper level high will keep rain chances very low. Looking back at last June, we got into the mid 90s (94) on June 14th and stayed there the rest of the month topping 100+ several times. We all wondered what August would bring? Well August 2009 was not as hot as June so don't get to thinking it will only get worse. 3 and a 1/2 months until cold fronts start coming again !
