Alex is Gone...New Gulf Low Sunday ?

Alex is officially gone tonight as NHC has issued its final advisory. Our concern now shifts to the NE Gulf for this weekend as several computer models try to develop an area of low pressure along an old cold front that is sliding down along the east coast. Will it happen? Maybe, but it will be a slow process as there are rather strong upper level winds that should curtail any rapid development. If it does happen, we would be on the west (dry) side of the system resulting in fewer storms over us with more sunshine and hotter temperatures. Stay tuned.

NWS Slidell says June 2010 ended up as the hottest June ever. Hard to believe since last June we tied or set records on 6 days (versus 1 this June) and topped 100 twice, yet June 2009 was only the 5th hottest. Maybe it was warmer night time temperatures that caused it to be the hottest?

My thoughts exactly, Bob. I believe the abnormally warm water temperatures had an influence on our nighttime temperatures thus causing the average to be higher. And for anyone that is wondering, no this is not Global Warming in the works. This is a direct side effect of this last El Nino event which released a ton of heat and moisture into the atmosphere with the majority of it being focused in our part of the world. I'm expecting Global temperatures to crash this winter the same way they did in winter 1998.

ONLY REAL: Does that prediction mean that we will have an abnormally cold winter? Possibly some snow?

On the other end of the spectrum, I hope this low doesn't develop into something in the gulf. We are saturated here in New Orleans and simply don't need any more rain for the next several days. Hot weather, come on back! I'll just stay in the pool!

OnlyReal, I did find your info on the El Nino interesting. Thanks for your thoughts on it...I'd love another cold winter...

Bob, I wonder if this Hottest June will get our Gov't to push Cap and Tax even harder...

All I know is I'll be spending my weekend in the pool...hope the showers hold off.

Happy Independence Day Everyone.
