August is Here...Still No Named Storm.

Looking around the globe tonight and we still are not tracking a tropical storm or hurricane. NHC says a system of clouds way out in the Atlantic has a "high" chance of becoming our next named storm within a day or 2. Since it is closer to Africa than to us and it still has no center, I'm not going to waste my energy thinking where it might go when it ain't there yet.

Locally and across most of the South, the heat is the main story. Hottest summer ever? Hardly, back in either 1980 or '81, Dallas had 42 straight days...that's 6 weeks where the highs exceeded 100 degrees. It's hot for sure, but it's also summer in the South. The week ahead looks to continue very hot and mostly dry. I did hear some thunder this afternoon as a few showers developed south of the city. We will be lucky to see any rain(10%) Mon-Tues. with slightly higher chances(20-30%) later in the week as the upper highs drifts farther to our west. Be careful out in the sun. Stay hydrated, use sunscreens & wear a hat.

The high on my patio thermometer today was 103 degrees. Way too hot for me. Speaking of rain, for a few minutes this afternoon dark clouds appeared over my house (in north Kenner) and it appeared it was going to rain. But 15 minutes later it was gone and no rain.
