Get those numbers Up...!

NHC named the season's 9th storm today based on satellite observations only. They project Tropical Storm Igor to eventually become a Cat. 2 Hurricane (did the same for Gaston) but recurve him well before threatening land areas just as most storms have done this year. Long range computer models are showing more east coast troughs coming the next 7-10 days with each trough deeper than the one before it. Translation...more cold front will be coming, especially after September 20th. Could we be talking SWEATER WEATHER Gang ?

Sept. 9th is the 45th anniversary of Hurricane Betsy making landfall on Grand Isle. Until Katrina, for my generation it was always...Remember Betsy or for the Mississippi Gulf Coast...remember Camille. Now it's always going to be...remember Katrina...until the next big one hits. Hopefully by then, the Corps of Engineers will have us better protected? From what I've seen, we already are. Stay tuned!

Thanks for the kind comments...now let's Go Saints !

Here we go again claiming the NHC is naming storms simply to up their numbers. Are you saying that satellite intensity
estimates nor ascat measurements of that large circulation don't support an upgrade to tropical storm status with max sustained winds of 39 or greater?

I have been cutting the grass every week all summer and this last time after waiting two weeks I see a growth pattern change, it grew much slower this time, plus iit is not nearly as tall (after over two weeks!) and its like setting up for winter, it is like I see in october...The type of grass even changed...Is thicker and has different shape. Winter is coming sooner this year me thinks and by looking at what you saying Bob I dont think I''mcrazy by saying this! lol

Too young to remember Betsy, but I did remember Camille. Being 5 yrs old at the time. About all I remember was getting the candles out and then the next morning going outside to see the damage. Dad told me not to wondering off in the neighborhood because there may be down powerlines...

Commenting on the prior blog, I only listen to Bob and Ch 8 for that matter with the weather. I do like the way Bob uses the satellite and puts maps in motion...I think Vipir has been an excellent addition as a weather tool...From all this technology, he makes his judgment calls...he uses his experince with weather patterns and just tells you what he thinks...and that strategy has earned a lot of respect over the years, at least in my book.

Hey, look forward to seeing #32 giving us his Saints fans drive home forecast....Go Saints!!!!!....look Favre on the ground...

What's the deal with 92L? I know anything is possible but could that affect us?

Absolutely Caveman. Read this passage from one hurricane expert that DOESN'T work for NOAA/NHC. "Once again NHC seems to have been "premature" in naming the storm without any GROUND TRUTH to support even the minimal criteria for a TS...since there was no direct pass today from ASCAT (Advanced SCATterometer) microvave satellite, nearby sfc. obs support winds of only 25-35 mph which is below TS strength." Years ago when it was only Dr. Gray putting out the seasonal fcst, no problem. As soon as NOAA got involved, NHC started being "influenced" by their boss. simple as that, tho they(NHC) will deny that.

Will assume you are referring to Dr. Masters or one of his crew say Cangialosi? Of course they will say that, they are a private company that for some reason believes the NHC is part of their competition.

NHC is dead on with this system.

CAVEMAN..."dead on". Did NHC say Igor would be downgraded to a depression? No Nothing against NHC. Just think they could have waited an extra day or two before naming this system. Too many folks are "married" to computer models. If the model says so, it must be right. Reality says models are not ALWAYS right.

I beleive they did mention possible weakening in their discussions... Thought you disliked computer models esp long range models, but you mention them quite a bit and did so again this time.

Ya know, I try to keep up w/Bob's blogs, since he is the only weather man I trust.....and for quite sometime now, each year I seem to recall the same person always questioning everything that Bob says....or having to say just the opposite....But ya know, I don't recall ever seeing a weatherman named Caveman on any news/weather station. Have you???
