Not Cool, but Less Hot ?

OK, so it's not a "Cool Brees" yet, but there is certainly a different feel to the air tonight. Far Northshore might see some upper 50s with 60s away from Lake P. on the Southshore. The muggies will be back by Wednesday so enjoy the good feel air. The tropics are active, BUT not around us. A big ridge of high pressure is centered over us and will steer any tropical disturbances that might form over the Western Caribbean westward across the Yucatan and southern Gulf into Mexico much like Alex and Hermine. Keep hoping this ridge hangs around for a few more weeks and by then some real cold fronts should be coming. Way too soon to write off any tropical threats as water temperatures remain very warm over the Gulf. Hurricane Igor & TS Julia are no threat to the U.S. Stay tuned !

Made the effort to cut my grass yesterday evening with the loser humidity...wow the days sure are getting darker, sooner. Managed to finish though...

With these 90 degree temps I took a swim afterwards. The pool is still warm enough to swim, although you can tell even with the 90's its not warming the pool like it does in July and Aug.

It was nice feeling the gentle breeze while in the water. Infact it I would often put my head under water to warm my face up as the air made my face cold...

Another front or two and swimming will be over for the season...

Hey Nashette, did you have a great time on your cruise???

Burbon St. My cruise was the bomb...all but the weather the day we left (it rained all day and most of the night) so we stayed in the casino and shops. But the next day at sea and the following day in Progresso were beautiful...Then came the excurtion in Cozumel....Torrential rain, thunder, lightening, wind blowing umbrellas all over the beach, etc. and guess what...after 4 hours of that, back to the boat, soaking wet on an air conditioned bus only to get to the dock to see that it did NOT rain one drop by the ship....Go figure.... I would cruise every year if I could afford it...Best vacation ever!!!

I'm reading Joe Bastardi at Accuweather predicting a run of activity in the Caribbean and Gulf at the end of the month. The long term GFS is also picking up on a major storm in the area at the end of the month (I know the long term models are not reliable).

When is the chill coming???

nicolew...why does that surprise you? I've said several times now that I thought any threat for us this year will come from the Gulf. The key will be this...IF a system gets into the Gulf the next 10-14 days, that places us near the end of the month when we should see the typical Fall westerlies take over the northern Gulf. That should mean any storms will recurve before they get to LA. As I said on Sunday, way too soon to write off this season for us.
