Waiting for Cooler Air...Waiting for October.

As we approach the Autumnal Equinox(Sept. 23) and the Astronomical beginning of Fall, I have noticed, like some of you, that the grass isn't growing as fast, plus acorns are falling from my oak trees. What hasn't happened yet is some real cold air showing up despite several fronts moving through. Another one will bring much drier air for us this week and that should mean somewhat cooler at night, especially on the northshore. After record breaking heat today, we'll take any relief we can get.

My feelings regarding any tropical threat this year remains the same. IF we are to get a real threat, it will come from the Gulf. Those long track, powerful Cape Verde storms continue to follow the pattern established with earlier storms...a recurvature to the north before threatening the U.S. No reliable long range computer models bring a storm to us during the next 2 weeks. However, the system now moving thru the Caribbean is forecasted to cross the Yucatan and into the Southern Gulf continuing westward into the upper Mexican or lower Texas coast. That would be no threat to us. Way too soon to shut down our tropical preparedness as the Gulf remains very warm. Stayed tuned.

Tks for the update. I was wondering what your thoughts were on that storm system.

How many times has it happened that a storm that formed up in the eastern Atlantic made landfall or posed a major threat to La.? It seems like that of all of the storms that have landfall or posed a threat the vast majority down through the years have been those that formed closer to the U.S. What are the data?

Well, there are several storms out there...Do we have to worry about any of them making their way into the Gulf of Mexico??? I got my last weekend of sun in my pool this weekend. Seems like the mornings are a bit cooler but by midday it sure was a killer! Come on October fronts...I'm stocking up on my firewood!!!

I would also like to thank you Bob on all the help with the BP oil spill. You were the only one that made since of the oil, and how it was being moved around by the currents, rather than the wind direction. Tks again!
