As highs reached near 90 this afternoon, sitting in my backyard sipping a cool one, it just didn't feel like it did one month ago. Why? Much lower humidity. This weekend will be hot again, but it's not September anymore.
With the cooler nights, coastal water temps. have taken a dip into the 70s. The Gulf is still warm enough to support a tropical system, however, none of the long range computer models show anything in the Gulf. While the next 7-10 days will stay on the warmish side, a huge outbreak of cold air will sweep thru after Oct. 20th. That is why I feel VERY confident that we will not see a tropical threat for the rest of this season. The Tropical "experts" will say they correctly predicted an active season...and they will be right. However, it just shows the folly of the early season predictions since they cannot forecast WHERE or WHEN a storm will strike. To me, there is little value in guessing the total number of storms since we have to be prepared regardless of whether it's one or 20. When the experts can narrow down the where or when with some skill, then it's time to pay attention.
This weekend, continue to enjoy October. My guess for Sunday...Saint's 34, Arizona 17 and it won't be that close !

Come on give them some kuddos! They did correctly predict the season, and they cleary state they don't make landfall predictions since that is pretty much impossible to do. I would pay attention to the predictions and how close they are each year since the more storms that form the more of a chance of a landfall grows. US simply got lucky this year..
Please, "I" could predict and name 15 thunderstorms during the summer too.
