While we continue to enjoy lovely Fall weather, Old Man Winter has arrived out West with many ski areas open for business. Looking farther to the north up in Alaska we find even colder air spilling from Siberia with the first sub-zero readings of the season. There are signs that some of that cold could reach us in 7-10 days, so enjoy what we have cuz you know what is coming down the road.
I put in my Fall flowers this week despite some of my summer flowers still looking good. Why would I pull up still blooming stuff? Because last year my neighbor Kathy replaced her annuals in early November and they really grew because the weather was fairly warm allowing them to establish their root systems. I waited until Early December when the cold finally knocked down my summer plants. By then, it was too cold for my Fall annuals to grow much. Fast forward to late Jan. into early Feb., when the weather started to warm and the days got longer, Kathy's flowers bloomed while mine were playing catch up and didn't really look good until late March. Bottom line...get your Fall gardens going now before the real chill arrives in 2-3 weeks. You'll be happy you did.

WOW! Caveman takes a little break and comes back to find out he missed out on a nice cat fight!
Caveman should get the all the kuddos for his hurricane prediction of 18 since NHC named 19 but Bob said one or more should never have been named so that makes me the KING! Plus I had to explain to ONLYREAL who where and how the seasonal hurricane prediction is made to begin with.
I am KING here me roar!
Witty, Witty caveman...:) Personally I think the hurricane predictions are a bunch of hoopla since the NHC and everyone else adjusts their predictions as they see fit. It's false advertising. :P
I agree anonymous.. Tell me where they are going to hit, and then we will talk.. Not too keen on making predictions, and then changing them as you see fit. It's like moving your target you are shooting at while the bullet is in flight. I call B.S. On this one....
Exactly Wiley! It's made more or less to give people some kind of hope. "Okay so we're on storm number 12 and the NHC said that the predicted number is 13, so I can pick up the boards back in the attic and unpack the hurricane kit."
I think with the science and technology that is evolving we will eventually one day be able to predict the landing spot with little deviation from the predicted land fall...but until then its all a guessing game and some folks are gonna be right and some wrong.
