Nash Has Died...

It was announced today that Nash Roberts has died at the age of 92. My thoughts about Nash are many. Let me review the past 33 years. I came to Ch. 8 (ABC at that time) in 1978 to be their Chief Meteorologist. The man who hired me was GM Robert Olsen, who I had worked for before in Tampa, Florida. Bob told me..." you are replacing a legend. You cannot replace a legend, you must create a new one.' I had no clue what he meant since I saw Nash as an "old man" who turned his back to his audience and did the same broadcast night after night. What I didn't know was that is what New Orleanians were used to for over 30 years. I struggled to understand why people watched Nash. It took me a long while to understand that TRUST AND RESPECT comes with time. Nash earned that...I hadn't. I remember him as a friend and colleague. A man who commanded respect since he gave up the love of his life(TV Weathercasting) to take care of the love of his wife. Lydia. I hope to be such a man. I replaced "the old man" at Ch. 8 in 1978. Now almost 33 years later, I am "the old man".

Going to Breckenridge, Co the week of 29th thru Jan 5. Any models hinting at what to expect that week? Hoping to get dumped on! Thanks.

...and Bob, as true as told that no one could fill Nash's shoes, you my friend have become that legend since...without Nash, Bob Breck is THE name to trust with tropical forecasting...period!

Condolences to the Roberts family. Nash was a great weatherman for his time. I think that we all have as much respect for you, Bob, just as we had in Nash. We all knew it was bad when you saw him with markers and the board. Now I know it's bad when I see Bob with jacket off, and sleep deprived. Tks for going above and beyond ANYONE in the NOLA region with the weather forecasts, especially during hurricane season.
