Satellite loops show a large swirl off of Africa is getting more t-storms around it and will likely be upgraded to T.S. Katia on Tuesday. She should follow the pattern well established this season and round the Bermuda high turning to the north well east of Florida. At this time she doesn't appear to be a problem for the Gulf. On the other hand, several models are trying to develop a small system (Lee?) over the western Gulf by this weekend. If it goes into Texas, that would be great news as they could use lots of tropical rains to help break their long drought. Again, without something already there, it's hard to predict where it might go. One thing for sure, a surge of Gulf moisture will move over us giving us our best rain chances in a long time. Unfortunately it appears to come during the Labor Day weekend. Stay tuned!
In the short term, little relief from the heat on Tuesday as I expect no rain until Wednesday PM at the soonest. The smoke from the marsh fire will again be around until stronger SE winds Wed. PM will blow the smoke out over the Lake.

Thanks for the update Bob.
I know it is a bit premature, but I have a friend in VA. One of the meteorologists said they are anticipating a cold front that will keep Katia away from the East Coast. If this does come into play, would it pull Katia out to sea or is she too far south and would continue moving west?
Good thing Katia will or should move away from us since Katia is the name they replaced Katrina with!
Bob, some models show a potential for a significant TS over the weekend in the Gulf. Do you see any weather patterns that would influence where such a system would likely go.
