Tropics Going Quiet...For Now.

With Nate now inland and gone and with Maria showing signs of turning away from the east coast, we may see no tropical activity for the next 7-10 days. An early season strong cold front will surge southward out of Canada, but it will struggle to get down to us. I still think IF we are to get another tropical threat it is likely to come from the tail end of a cold front that makes it into the Gulf. The later into the season we get, the less likely any threat will be from a major storm. Yea I know the GFS has one in the NE Gulf at day 14, but what have we said about model accuracy that far out?

Has this been an active Hurricane season? If you go by the total number of named storms one would say yes. However, if you use the ACE(Acumilated Cyclone Energy) Index, you find this year is way below average. Yea we have seen lots of named storms, but most have been weak swirls that lasted a day or two. Humidity returns this week along with the summer-like heat.

I agree on the below average statement, I have found this season not to be as active, especially when you look at the lack of intensity from these storms....seems they lack that quick development/strength that we saw in the year of Katrina. Seems storms have struggled to develop this year..

Now if we could just some cold fronts coming down this way and bring back that delightful weather of a week ago....

Nice to see ya back Burbon St. Blues. Before we know it we'll be listening for Bob's snow forecast!!! I am very thankful that this Hurricane season was mild (along the gulf coast) compared with past years. Let's just hope it stays that way for another month and we'll have it made!
