Having lived here for over 35 years, I have never remembered a May like this one. No, I'm not complaining but this is shocking how long April-like weather lingers on. Tonight's lows will dip into the 50s (maybe even upper 40s N-Shore) and the real May heat & humidity won't arrive until later in the week. The statistic that jumps out comparing May 2012 to 2013 is this...# of days below 80...2012 ONE, 2013 TEN !!! The real winners here will be our wallets as we really haven't need to use the A/C very often. You know that will change.
All this cool air has also kept the Gulf waters from warming. However, the Caribbean & Tropical Atlantic are very warm so I do expect the 2013 Hurricane season to get off to an early start. Stay tuned!
Most of this week looks very quiet as no fronts are likely to push our way. A weak upper system may bring us some high clouds late Tuesday thru Thursday, but no rain is in the forecast. Highs should finally top average/normal (85) by Thursday or Friday.
