Enjoy the Sept. Preview

Another dip in the jet stream along the East Coast is carving out a well defined upper low centered over south Florida tonight.  We will be on the dry side of this rotation for the next several days bringing in drier air at all levels of the atmosphere.  It’s too soon for any real cool air here but the lower humidity will make the August 90+ heat feel less oppressive. In addition, overnight lows may dip into the 60s on the North Shore.    As the upper low drifts closer to us by the end of the week our daily rain chances should return.

Fernand is gone inland over Mexico and the next named storm probably will come from out in the Atlantic.   With the MJO going favorable (rising air), look for several systems to develop during the next 7-10 days with one of them finally becoming the season’s 1st hurricane.  I still see early September cold fronts coming that should turn any major tropical system east of Florida and up the east coast.   Does that mean we’ll see no threat this year?  Of course not, but I’m hoping the pattern of fewer storms so far will mean the real bad storms (Camille, Andrew, Katrina etc.) will have a more difficult time getting stronger.  The peak is coming so stay tuned!
