Scary Time One Year Ago...

Last August 28th we were following a strong Tropical Storm named Isaac moving slowly towards the mouth of the river.   FOX 8 had already gone to 24/7 coverage and NHC would upgrade Isaac to a Hurricane before it made its 1st landfall over lower Plaquemines.  Storm surges of 8-12 feet were predicted east of the River, but Isaac decided to stall for 18 hours just to the west of the River.  That lack of motion kept plowing more and more water into Lake P. and the eastern communities of Plaquemines like Braithwaite.  Their 9 foot high levee couldn’t handle the 12-14 foot surge and some lost their life because they stayed behind.  The strong, persistent easterly winds forced Lake Pontchartrain to overflow across I-10 into Laplace flooding places that had never been flooded before.  Isaac drained me even more than Katrina since my staff stayed at FOX 8 for 4 days tracking this system.  We learned that track & forward motion are more important than what Category of storm.

Fortunately we have no Isaac this year.   In fact I had to chuckle watching The Weather Channel tonight trying to figure out how their forecast numbers (15 storms, 7 hurricanes) can be met.   Their Hurricane Specialist said his gut told him they couldn’t get that high based on the state of the Tropics this year.   I agree & I’ve said before that we’ll be lucky to reach 12-14 named storms with 3-4 Hurricanes.  Stay tuned!

Speaking of TWC, their agenda regarding Global Warming/Climate Change/Weather Extremes couldn’t be more obvious.  It’s really sad to watch science be hijacked by a small group controlled by corporate powers.   Let’s just enjoy our early Fall preview and not get upset by the assault on our lifestyles.
