Hermine to become Hurricane?

Latest NHC guidance calls for TS Hermine will become a Cat. 1 Hurricane before making landfall late Thursday evening.  This has been a strange storm from the get go so I would not be surprised to see it strengthen despite a very ragged appearance on satellite loops.  What I see is a turning more to the east which would bring it back to the big end area of Florida.  Earlier this afternoon, NHC shifted the track farther to the west over Apalachicola but has shifted it back farther to the east tonight.  That is more in line with our VIPIR model.   Hermine is a very lopsided system with all of the bad weather on the eastern side.   Forward speed has increased to 10 mph which may increase further tomorrow.  That means any showers along the Florida beaches will quickly leave making for a sunny, dry Labor Day weekend.  Same story here as our rain chances will be near zero for the next 2-3 days.  Without showers and lots of sunshine, we’ll be back into the mid to upper 90s.    We have no more tropical threats coming for the next 7-10 days, but I don’t think you have seen the last of me on FOX 8.   With the MJO heading into the favorable (rising air) phase for the next couple of weeks, more storms are likely to perk up.  But not this holiday weekend.  Enjoy!
