Time for a Rest...

I really don’t have much to talk about tonight as Irma is a dying rainstorm over Alabama & Georgia.  The size of the storm surge along the east coast was a reminder of how big Irma really was.  Even though her center was over north Florida well inland, Jacksonville up thru Savannah & Charleston saw huge storm surges far greater than the west coast of Florida.   This storm gives us a teaching moment as the right side of almost every hurricane presents the greatest dangers including the highest storm surges.  That’s why it’s so important to watch that centerline track.  Stay to the left far enough to avoid the eyewall and usually damage will be minimal.  Be on the right (wrong) side and look out.  

So what’s ahead?  Jose is still churning out in the Atlantic and there is nothing RIGHT NOW that indicates Jose could get into the Gulf.  He could threaten the East Coast later this weekend, but most models show the recurve out to sea.   There is nothing in the 7-10 day time frame that brings a storm into the Gulf.  We are 3 weeks away from October and I’ll start looking for the “Fat Lady” soon.   I do not see another cold front coming so enjoy this less humid air mass.  We still have more summer like weather to come.  Stay tuned!
