After the 1st 15 days of October being very warm, the trend is setting up for a much cooler 2nd half. We’re not done with warm air as the next several days will top 80 again along with increasing humidity making it feel summer-like. However, next week will see 2 cold fronts with the second bringing out the sweaters and jackets. More cold is coming as Halloween week looks to be chilly. The real cold is starting to show up in Alaska with several stations reporting lows in the teens. The Arctic air is gathering around the North Pole and I’ve heard Santa & his elfs are hard at work already! The change of seasons is gathering steam and it will be interesting to see if temperatures in November & December flip-flop from very warm to very cold?
The Tropics have gone quiet, but the western Pacific has a strong Typhoon that will get near Japan. As the energy from that storm heads east, it should pump up an upper ridge over the western states with a deep trough forming over the East. That should mean lots of Canadian cold spreading down towards the Gulf South. I still think there will be 1-2 more named storms forming down over the Caribbean and/or eastern Atlantic as there still is 6 weeks left in the hurricane season. With all these fronts coming, that’s why the “Fat Lady” was singing.
