Too Soon for Cold to Linger...

The chill was in the air this morning with 30s widespread across the North Shore & away from Lake P. south.  Monday morning will be chilly again, but then the warm up begins that should last through the 1st week of November.  Lake Pontchartrain has cooled into the 60s with even the buoy east of the River now down into the upper 70s.   The reason the cold air doesn’t linger at this time of the year is it takes time for water temperatures to respond.  Once the waters cool into the 40s & 50s, it’s harder to quickly warm back up.  But right now, once the winds go back to the south, the cool air quickly modifies back into the 70s despite the lower sun angle limiting daytime heating.  Personally, this is as cold as I want it.  I know some of you want to see the white stuff & wear the heavy weather gear, but that’s not for me.  For sure, 6 months of 90+ is a little too long, but I can take the heat better than the cold.    I’m not gonna whine, but I’m just saying…

Tropical Storm Philippe didn’t last long.  In fact, NHC wasn’t sure exactly where the center really was.    It was south of Cuba, then west of Key West, then over south Florida, then east of Florida, then…gone!   There is a real nor’easter happening tonight, but it’s a winter-like storm, just like Sandy 5 years ago.  The difference is Sandy transitioned from a real Hurricane into a winter-like storm.  This system is forming closer to the North Carolina coast and should not bring the big storm surge that Sandy brought.  Regardless, heavy rains and high winds are making for a miserable night over the Northeast.  Funny how Mother Nature performs.  2 weeks ago, much of the Northeast was in a mini-drought.  The past 2 weeks have completely wiped that out.   With a La Nina settling up,  the developing seasonal storm track could mean many more snow/ice storms for the Northeast.  Stay tuned!

Oh by the way…Saints Win!
