I visited with my 2 older sons in Montana the past few days & I return just in time to thaw out. Thank goodness I took my heavy leather jacket as much of the Rockies have been suffering underneath a stalled upper tough that has kept them cloudy and unusually chilly. Montana is beautiful, but it takes a tough individual to deal with so many months of cold. Missoula was nice & green but plenty of snow remains up on the higher mountains surrounding it. Our first day trip took us north of Kalispell to Flathead Lake, The temps were in the high 40s with a misty drizzle making being outside uncomfortable. But noooo, we pass a golf course and there are 2 guys out there golfing! Amazing! Next day we traveled into Idaho to the resort city of Coeur d'Alene. Fortunately the sun came out and temps actually reached 60-65. This is a really beautiful city on a large Lake that has many high rise condos much like the Gulf Coast to our east. Absolutely spectacular scenery. Glad I was able to visit another part of our great country.
With the western upper trough hanging around another 7-10 days, the east will see a strong upper ridge that will produce the first real heat wave as highs top 90+. Saw where the local office of the NWS is indicating some heat records could be broken by the end of this week into the weekend. I will not mind it one bit as the little fella can handle heat way better than cold. What we'll need to do as the temperatures creep up and the threat of rain goes away is to water our gardens & potted plants. Other than the heat, we should have no major weather issues.
Also saw where NHC has named the small cluster of clouds off the East Coast "sub-tropical Storm Andrea". It should bother no one as it stays way off the Carolinas and gets absorbed by a cold front later this week. Too early for us to watch the Tropics! Stayed tuned!
