A Brighter Day...Almost

I spent the morning picking up all the "tree trash" in my backyard trying to get it back to looking good again.  All my potted plants are doing great along with most of my in-ground plants.  Several are beginning to indicate perhaps they've had too much water so we really don't need any more rain.  My storm total ended up at 2.05"   For awhile the sun actually was out today (1st time in 4 days!) and it definitely is a brighter day.  However, just after the noon hour, another heavy downpour re-soaked my already soggy yard as some of the wrap around moisture from Barry (now NW of Little Rock) is still over us.  East of Mobile Bay the sun is shining and it's back to basic summertime.  I expect we'll start to see more sunshine resulting in hotter temps. perhaps as soon as tomorrow.  Typical daytime heating showers could bubble up, but no widespread rainfall is expected.

Some more good news...the Mississippi River at the Carrollton gauge is steady at 16.2' and should stay that way into the weekend.  Upstream north of Natchez the River is falling 1/2 to one foot per day and that tells me the Army Corps will likely start closing the Spillway no later than next Monday.   Since those huge falls are occurring all the up into the Ohio River, once beyond this week the Mighty Mississippi should rapidly get back to the more typical 6-8' levels for this time of the year by mid to late August.  That will mean one less worry as we head into the heart (Aug. 10- Oct. 10th)  of hurricane season.  Stay tuned!
