Laura's Effects To Linger...

Watching the video on TWC (The Weather Channel) this morning and Hurricane Laura's bite was as bad as her bark.   Numerous trees & power poles down (Just like after Katrina) with 90+% of Lake Charles without power.  We all know how long it takes to restore the grid.  If there was any good news, the reports I heard are the surge was lower than predicted.

Landfall occurred at 1 AM in Cameron and the large eye passed right over Lake Charles.  The eye structure was still apparent well inland finally filling in as she reached west of Alexandria.  As Laura heads farther inland, her winds are weakening (down to 100 mph) and now the focus for us shifts over to flooding rains as a feeder band trains over south Louisiana.

'That heavy rain band should stay west of NOLA this morning, but the band should work eastward during the day.  Rain totals could be 3-5'+ and that would cause some street flooding problems. In addition, there is a tornado threat for us that will likely be widened and extended later this morning.

In addition, water levels will stay high as strong south winds keep pushing the Gulf into the bayous.  Seas are coming down but it'll be another 2 days before water levels are back to normal.  Let's keep watching this band of heavy rains as it approaches us.  I will have another post before noon.  The final track of Laura was nearly spot on to the NHC forecast and hopefully that will be reflected in nobody losing their life.   You could not say..." I didn't know it would be this bad."   Nope, the message was clear from the get go,,,get out.  This is a good lesson for us if/when a Cat. 4 or 5 threatens us.  Will you get out?  I hope so.  Stay tuned!

Did you mean to say "Rain totals could be 3-5'+ " ??

Surge probably was less due to path it took also that it wasn't a Cat 4 or 5 way out in the Gulf building up water for a couple days.
