This will be a quick update before I'll have a longer one before noon. We still have the potential for 2 land falling hurricanes on the Louisiana coast this week. Tropical Storm Marco will be the first arriving tomorrow with Laura 2 days later on Wednesday. Let's investigate.
Both systems are still tropical storms that are expected to become Hurricanes, but look at the size difference. Marco is a much smaller storm, meaning if you can avoid the eye wall, the biggest threat will then be heavy rainfall (3-5").
Marco will impact SE LA, but if the westward trend of the center line track continues, it lessens the impact for the Mississippi coast. Hurricane warnings are now up from the mouth of the Pearl River to Morgan City.
Note the slight shift of the center line from north of Houma to south of Houma. The quicker Marco makes the left (west) turn, the better for NOLA & the MS. coast. Unfortunately, Parishes west of the River will see the worst impacts, BUT, Marco will NOT be a Katrina.
I still feel Laura will be the worst storm for Louisiana as it has maintained its inner core despite interacting with the Mountains of Haiti/DR. It now is predicted to become a CAT 2 Hurricane before land fall in WESTERN LA.
The center line track shifted way farther to the west and we want that trend to continue. The farther west and south Laura goes, the better for SE LA/MS. Next update before noon. Stay tuned!
