No Named Storms Anywhere...

Somewhat ironic that in the 2 days since the weather experts issued their doom & gloom "extremely active" hurricane forecast, we have ZERO named storms on the Planet right now.

Why is that?   Probably because (at least in the Atlantic & Caribbean) the MJO is in the unfavorable (sinking air) mode.   There are 2 areas out in the Atlantic that might develop with the bright cluster moving off of Africa looking better defined.   However, that is not the area NHC highlights.

They only give that area a 10% chance to develop...translation, not gonna happen.

The rest of the Atlantic, Caribbean and Gulf is quiet with 2 exceptions.  There is a well defined swirl far east of Florida, but it has no storms with it.  The 2nd area is over the extreme southern Gulf where it looks like there is a mid level circulation mostly over land.  Bottom line, we have no systems that we need to worry about for at least the next 5 days.  The main question is...when will the MJO flip to the favorable (rising air) phase?   We can hope not until late October, but hope is not a plan.  Each week now you should be gathering some of the basic hurricane supplies that we'll need when the threat comes, and it will come.
Finally, you can still see the clear skies north of Lake P., but low level moisture is back south of the Lake.  I expect to see more T-Storms bubble up this afternoon compared to the last 3-4 dry days.  Stay tuned!
