Hurricane Teddy Could Become Our Friend?

Tropical Storm Beta HAS made the turn to the west and new information from the NHC indicates it WILL  make landfall in Texas before turning back to the NE over Louisiana.  That is great news for us regarding wind and storm surge, but we'll still be on the "wet side".

Granted, the center line track barely is over land, but I like the trend of the models taking it farther to the west.  Will that continue?  I think it will due to major Hurricane Teddy's forecast track moving up closer to the east coast of the U.S. by Tuesday of next week.
If this graphic proves true, Teddy's circulation will strengthen and bring southward the surface high currently over the Northeast.  I love how some of you have said we need a "Beta-blocker"!  That blocker could be the high pressure forced down by Teddy?

Right now that surface high is steering Beta away from us towards Texas.  NHC still expects it to become a hurricane, but in their discussion they mention all the dry air both surface and higher up across Texas that could keep it just a weak tropical storm.  Satellite pictures have shown a struggling system that is trying to make a comeback.

The top view shows how there is a large cloud shield along a front that has pushed down to us.  The next photo has the track turning to the west while the next 2 have an exposed center (arrow) being covered up again as new storms form around the center.

In the top pic, you can see how the big red glob from earlier this morning, has diminished with a new burst of red around the center in the next pic.  Radar confirms the same as the heaviest rains are staying offshore and along our coast.  My feelings from an earlier post are the same.  The main danger with this storm will be heavy rainfall and not wind and/or storm surge.

That doesn't mean there won't be some high water outside the levees.  As our winds shift from the NE now to the SE and S over the weekend into next week, that will mean higher tides, but nothing like what Sally brought us.   NHC does have Beta a slow mover for the next 2-3 days, but then it increases forward speed by Wednesday and Thursday and should be gone by Friday into next weekend.  For this weekend, it is what it is.  I'll post later this afternoon around 4 PM.  Stay tuned!
