From Oklahoma With Love...

As I get ready to board an airplane back to NOLA, I must show off my Grandson Ethan who some say looks a little like Pops!

I have enjoyed spending time with him and his parents (Emily & Justin) and seeing what real Fall colors look like even after a terrible ice storm last week.  Thanks to them for keeping Pops well fed!

there are no Sunday surprises from NHC, except now they believe Eta will again become a hurricane over the "Loop Current" west of Key West.

The top graphic has the current water temps of the Gulf with the tiny arrow pointing out the loop current.  The bottom graphic is from WeatherBell Analytics where their hurricane forecaster, Joe Bastardi, believes Eta will go.  He has it going farther to the west and much stronger than NHC even reaching a Cat. 2 or 3 down over the loop current.  We shall see which idea is correct.  Joe made his prediction Yesterday when Eta was still down over the Caribbean.

the top satellite view is the water vapor showing the dry air west of Eta, while the middle two are the daylight views.  Eta is the bright spot emerging off the northern coast of Cuba.  There is a swirl over the western tip that is the upper low that will draw Eta back to the west.  With such a predicted slow movement over the loop current, do not be surprised to see Eta get stronger than the NHC future intensities.  The bottom pic is the rain shield that covers south Florida.

The current surface features continue to have a large blocking high over the eastern states that is bringing very warm air east of the Rockies.  There is a deep trough over the west that has brought them some much needed rain and snow along with very chilly temperatures.

Until there is an upper pattern shift, I don't see any of that cooler air coming to us for the next 5-7 days.  All of this week will be focused on watching Eta stall down over the SE Gulf.  I see nothing that indicates we'll be impacted by this storm.  I will post again during the Saints game this evening. Stay tuned and go Saints!
