Back From Tarpon Rodeo, Back to Tropics...

When I left for the Rodeo on Thursday morning, NHC was watching an area off the Carolinas for possible development.   4 days later, they're still watching as nothing has developed.  I mentioned that's because the MJO is in the unfavorable (sinking air) over our part of the World and that should me we stay quiet into August.

NHC still believes there is a chance (50%) for the weak low east of Florida to become a Tropical Depression as it drifts slowly to the west, but it's running out of time.  The rest of the Tropics have nothing going on as we enter the final week of July.

Since i haven't seen a weather program since last Wednesday, I really don't have a feel for what's going on with our local weather except to say it's hot and we have spotty daytime storms.  Humm, sounds like basic summer.

Most of the eastern U.S, has heat & humidity with some relief coming from those summer storms.

The top radar view is from 11 AM when the storms were south of the city.  The next view is from 2 PM with the storms across the North Shore.  During the past hour, most storms have weakened but the clouds have cooled some folks.

The 7 days will look like this for the next couple of weeks until we starts to see the September fronts coming.

Finally, my trip to Grand Isle was great despite some stiff west winds.  My partner, Dr. Robert Muller captured 1st place in the Catfish division with a 6 ;b 2 oz. beauty.  He also caught two 25 lb redfish which we released since they were too small to make the leaderboard.  I experienced the rising of the full moon on Friday night and the setting of the full moon on Saturday morning.  Also it was great to see the thousands of birds on Queen Bess island that has been completely fortified by new rocks.  Thanks to Heather Martin for her assistance during the awards ceremony and to the Candies Family for providing us whatever we needed to make the Grand Isle Tarpon Rodeo a special weekend in my life.  You need to mark your calendars as next year makes the first time we will have a woman ( J.P. President Cynthia Lee-Sheng) as the President of the Rodeo and it's about time!  Stay tuned!
