Despite being very dry for the past 3 months, we will still finish the year as the second wettest ever.
All of today's big storms have moved into Georgia leaving us dry with many sunny breaks that resulted in us breaking the record high of 81. Tomorrow & Saturday will flirt with more record warmth before the pattern changes early on Sunday. We'll go from Spring warmth to heavy coat weather in a matter of hours.
We still have the main storm track/upper trough along the West coast that has brought rain and snow to many locations. As the upper trough finally kicks out and heads to the East coast, the cold will follow. Sunday's highs will be before dawn (in the 60s) will dive into the 40s for most of the day with strong north winds. Freezing temps. will cover the North Shore on Monday and Tuesday, but the South Shore should stay in the mid to upper 30s.
SPC (Storm Prediction Center) is already sending out the alerts for several weather potential ahead of the cold front. The top graphic is valid for Friday with the next for Saturday. It appears our most likely time for any strong storms will be after dark on Saturday into early on Sunday.
We still have 2 more very warm days and I'll discuss tomorrow what I will do in my yard ahead of the approaching chill. It appears the core of the real cold will stay to our north and we'll see a quick warm up midweek.
Finally, as that strong disturbance over California kicks out to the east, it's creating very strong (100 mph+) down slope winds in Colorado. A fire started and spread like crazy forcing evacuations orders for 2 cities. (Louisville, Superior). If you can see a fire on satellite views, you know it's a big one. The next 2-3 days will see some wild weather as the clash between warm & cold is enhanced by that strong western disturbance. What a way to start the New Year! Stay tuned!
