Tropics Staying Quiet, We're Staying Wet...

It's been a month since Colin was around (wasted name) and models continue to indicate no development in the Atlantic for the next 10-14 days.  The MJO is predicted to enter the more favorable (rising air) phases (2 & 3) after week 2 so I expect to see activity ramp up for the last 2 weeks of August, which is fairly typical.  For now,  we have nothing to follow except several innocent swirls.

The cloud mass over us is interesting as it appears we have an upper high 0ver a mid level weak low.

Models appear clueless as to what's going on except to indicate we have deep tropical moisture all along the northern Gulf.  I do remember years ago in late August a weak surface low over land moved just out into the waters of Breton Sound.  The Saints were playing a preseason game in the Dome & NHC made the swirl a TD on their late evening advisory.   So while the Tropics look quiet, we need to pay attention for a surprise home grown development.   There are benefits to the rain & clouds.

Highs stayed well below 90 with many staying in the 70s.  This was a totally backward day as the rains were around at daybreak and tapered off this afternoon.

Tomorrow may be a repeat as the glob over us is moving very little.  We have no fronts around so it will take a change in the upper air pattern.  August is typically a month of little or slow moving air disturbances.   It could be worse.  Look at Dallas & Houston!

We could see a decrease in shower coverage later this wee, but I'm not sold on that.  Thank all of you who made comments regarding skin cancer.  I'll be fine, but thanks to all for your prayers & concerns.  Stay tuned!
