Models, SPC Nailed Severe Weather Threat & Timing

This was a well advertised severe weather event as computer models and the Storm Prediction Center (SPC) issued graphics days in advance that it was coming.  As the promo says...these guys/gals are good.   It got so active around the noon hour that there were 5-6 tornado warnings in effect north of the Lake at the same time.  Reminded me of the great tornado outbreak on April 3, 1974 when I worked in Dayton, Ohio.  The difference between the two days was April 3, 1974 was historic with more EF4 &5s intensity tornadoes compared to today.  Still, scary is scary, damage is damage & this outbreak has caused several fatalities.  Thankfully, the line has passed and the danger heads to the Mississippi coast.

Cooler & drier air is moving in bringing a welcomed change to our long warm spell.

Skies quickly will clear from the west tonight and the sun will be back tomorrow.  You'll need the sweaters & jackets again, but if you're dressed for it, it'll feel great.

Look at how much lower the dew points are (bottom graphic) back in Texas.  The chill will arrive in stages, but it appears we're back to more December like weather for the next week at least.

For you really cold air geeks, the long range models are hinting for an Arctic blast coming down on Christmas Eve.  Don't see snow here, but we could be dealing with a freeze?  Stay tuned!
