Still Time To Save Plants, Prepare Home/Yards

It may not have been a terrible Tuesday, but without any sunshine, brief periods of rain, brisk northerly winds & chilly temps made for a dismal day.  Hard to believe it will get worse, but the coming weekend chill will make today look balmy.   The upper pattern still shows no signs for an Arctic Blast coming to the Gulf South.  That will change as these charts show.

The top view is today with the next being tomorrow & the bottom being valid on Thursday.  Note the arrow points to the upper energy diving down over the Dakotas.

That energy moves right over Chicago on Friday and starts to lift back into Canada on Saturday.  Another disturbance dips down the Plains on Monday keeping the NW upper DRY flow in place into next week.  Even though we'll be cold enough at the surface, that upper flow won't allow moisture for any snow to develop across the South.  So sorry Gang, if you want to see snow, you'll have to drive or fly to it.

You can see the coming chill as subzero air covers the northern tier of states.

Low clouds may linger again tomorrow and that will keep temps below normal again.  Thursday will warm ahead of the front, but then the bottom drops out.

I will continue preparing my yard tomorrow, but will hold off until Thursday on bringing my plants into my He-shed.  This will be a long duration cold snap.

You still have 2 days to get ready.  If you wait until Friday it'll be too late as the below freezing line will be here before daybreak.  Stay tuned!
