Cold Streak Ending, Big Warm Up,, Weekend Storms?

Today is day # 9 below normal, but that streak will end as much warmer air is spreading back in from the Gulf.  You'll notice a different feel to the air tomorrow as our dew points will rise from the 40s back into the 60s. A weak upper disturbance to our north is triggering a large rain shield and making for a very breezy day here.

As that upper system moves to the east, look for less winds here tomorrow.  Our next weather maker is actually plowing into California today with damaging winds, heavy rains & heavy snows at higher elevations.

As this system heads across the country, it appears to me that the main energy will stay well to our north along with the severe weather threat.  SPC moves the severe threat from Texas Thursday night into Friday to over us Friday night into Saturday.  From what I see on the GFS computer model, the real severe threat along with the heavy rain threat will be well to our north.  Look at these graphics.

We begin with the current upper storm hitting California in the top view.  It's followed by views valid for Thursday, Friday, Saturday into Sunday.  With the upper trough not diving over the Southeast, the heavy rain threat heads to the Ohio Valley. That is confirmed by the rain forecast from the WPC.(Weather Prediction Center) that focuses 3-5" from Missouri into Ohio.

Our best rain chance will be late Friday into early on Saturday as Hannah Gard showed us at 4 PM

As I mentioned, I feel that severe threat will stay well north of us.

That upper system may drag a weak front through us this weekend bringing slightly drier, but not cooler air.  You'll have to wait until next week for our next real cool down.

In the short term, look for increasing humidity & warmer temperatures for the rest of this week.  Our cold spell is gone.

Finally, here's why Spring is my favorite time of the year.  The vivid flower colors along with the scent awakens my yard.

The top view has my amaryllis flowers followed by the Jasmine that covers my back fence.  The next is my variegated ginger now with the bottom before the December freeze.  It'll take some months before it's back to the 6 feet plus heights.  Stay tuned!
