Eye Sight Is Awesome, Small Severe Threat Early Friday...

Forgot to mention that my cataract eye surgery on Tuesday went without issues.  Thanks to Dr. Don Cerise for his expert skill and the many nurses who assisted him.  I still look like one of the Blues Brothers when I walk Bailey!  Visited my dermatologist this morning to freeze off more "suspicious spots".  Unfortunately, several were on my face.   Damn sitting in the sun in my youth!  Ugh!

No surprise that February was one of our warmest ever.

Today marks the beginning of "Meteorological Spring" and our high topped 80 for the 10th straight day. That won't change until a cold front sweeps through early on Friday.

An upper disturbance, currently near Las Vegas, will quickly race into the Plains by late tomorrow bringing a high risk (level 4) to areas to our north & west.  The upper energy should then lift more towards the Great Lakes keeping most of the severe storms away from us.

You can see the temperature contrast between cold & warmth and that's where the storm track should follow.  Computer models downplay the severe threat here, but I suggest we pat attention after dark tomorrow to see what develops.

What makes me nervous is the deep surge of low level moisture (Dew Points 65+) flowing out ahead of the front.  I'm not buying the computer solution so far and will keep up on any development closer to us after dark tomorrow, and so should you.

If you thought today was breezy, wait until Thursday PM.  Would not be surprised to see NWS issue a wind advisory with gusts to 40+ as the western upper disturbance triggers a deep surface low over the Plains.

Finally, I close on a sad note for me.   I learned my good friend, Joe D'Aleo lost his wife (Emily) after 54 years of marriage.  Who's Joe?  Well, Joe was the weather producer for my mentor John Coleman at WLS-TV (Chicago) back in the late 70s.  Even though I was Michigan & he was Wisconsin, we developed a great bond & respect over the years.  If you remember, John Coleman was the founder of The Weather Channel back in 1982.

What many of you might not remember was John filled in for me on Channel 8 during the birth of my third son (Justin) in October of 1980 using the paper roll out maps he created (The John Coleman experience) in Chicago.  He had already moved on to Good Morning America.  Such memories.  RIP Emily & John.  Peace Joe.  Stay tuned!
