What Happened To Summer? Feels Like Fall Again...

We've been way too warm for most of the Winter and into early Spring that many folks thought we were done with cold fronts.  This weekend has changed that thinking and our Fall feeling will last for most of this week.  Since our sun angle is so much higher now, the only way we stay below 70 is if we have clouds and/or rain.  Well, we will have both and let me explain why.

There is another upper low moving across Oklahoma with very little weather with it.  Normally, it would keep moving to the east, but computer guidance says not.  The bottom graphic is valid for Wednesday with the low parked over SW Louisiana,  That will have us on the wet side.  Unbelievably, there is chatter on Facebook saying a Tropical Storm may develop in the Gulf.  Why won't that happen? Water Temperatures are still too chilly (70s) and this is a "cold core system"  So why would anyone say that?  This is what got the chatter going.

The top graphic is the GFS surface forecast for this Wednesday issued 2 days ago.  Humm, looks like a well defined low off the mouth of the River?  But the next 2 views are valid for the same time (Wed. AM) but issued yesterday and today.  What happened to that Tropical Storm?  Could it be wanta be meteorologists, who don't understand computer model UNCERTAINTY & understanding, believe models at 5, 8, 12+ days are accurate.  It's called computer guidance for a reason Gang.  Leave the forecasting to the professionals.  What that cut off upper low will do is keep us in clouds and showers with late Tuesday into Thursday looking soggy.

Sunshine will return for next weekend along with a return to warmer air.  

You can see how much warmer (70s) it is over the Plains where they're sunny on the backside of the surface high.  I was hoping to see some sunny breaks today, but not so on the South Shore.

We are not done with cold fronts as the next graphic is the upper air flow for a week from this Tuesday.  Note the trough is over the Great Lakes and East Coast telling me we are not done with cold front.

Finally, my yellow flowering bush in the front of my house made it through the December freeze, but it's a long road to recovery.

I was hoping for some sprouts along the old branches, but that's not happening.  I will have to do some snipping.   Several years ago, I gave up on tomato plants since the birds & insects always proved a problem.  I'm trying again with a new "Bubba".  Will keep you posted.
