Quiet Weekend Shaping Up.

We're not quite to those lazy, crazy days of summer, but on the golf course today, it was almost hot.  Part of the problem was the lack of wind.  That can be seen both on the upper air pattern & on the surface map where the strongest system is the low moving out of southern Canada.

A chilly surface high is drifting off the New England coast that saw many record lows set this morning.  An even colder air mass is diving into the Dakotas where temps are only in the 40s.

The bulk of the showers are to our north & east and slightly drier air (dew points in the 60s) has filtered in with only south Florida in the soupy 70+ dew points.

With temps in the high 80s, a couple of storms have bubbled up.  If you're lucky enough to get under one of those showers, brief cooling happens.  But it doesn't last long.

Obviously, there's an error on the 7 day as Friday's high will be near 90 again.  Rain chances are there everyday, which is typical of basic summertime.  

Some of the hazy skies up north can be traced back to all the wildfires burning over Alberta, Canada.  Until they get some rain, expect those fires to keep burning.  Finally...

A local channel is bragging about being "certified" most accurate with even billboards touting that "certification".  Back while I was working, Ch. 8 decided not to pay the fee to this "certification" company as I was already certified by the American Meteorological Society (AMS).  To receive that AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) title, I had to pass a comprehensive 100 question exam.  I find it misleading that a company can "certify" a TV station when no individual exam is required.   Isn't it like local magazines having their "best Doctors" or "best lawyers" editions?  A late surgeon friend of mine told me he was never considered to be "the best" because he refused to pay the fee to advertise in those issues!   What do you think Gang?  Misleading?   Stay tuned!
