I Can Never Get Tired Of Telling The Weather Story.

We all know so many Christmas stories..."T'was the night before Christmas & and all thru the house, not a creature was stirring... "  "Rudolph the red nose reindeer had a very shiny nose..."   "Chestnuts roasting on an open fire , Jack Frost nipping at your nose..."   Yada, yada,    As young children, we couldn't get tired of hearing them.  With me, it's the weather stories.  No, not what the model says, but why the weather is doing what it's doing.  For instance on this Christmas Day...

At mid day, there is a cut off upper low over east Kansas with mild/warm air streaming up the east side with winter cold air on the back side.  50+ degree weather in Minneapolis, Green Bay, Chicago, even Buffalo is a big deal!  Will you see any station explaining what is going on?  Nope, nor with they show you why the weather will be turning much colder later this week.  Look what the model does with the upper low over Kansas.

The top graphic is valid for tonight with the 2nd valid for Wednesday night.  The low barely moves.  Finally by Friday, the low pulls to the East coast.  Note how the upper winds change from the WSW over us to the west and then to the north drawing down the colder air.  Right now, that WSW flow is keeping us in clouds.

All I ask for Christmas is that local weathercasters go back to storytelling instead of just showing what the model says.  Tell me the WHY.  Why will we stay dry, but get colder later this week?

As that upper low staggers to the east, we'll get colder and colder with morning lows below freezing across the North Shore by Friday lasting into the weekend.  Even the South Shore might need to cover our plants.  More about that later this week.  Finally,

Also, yesterday's rainfall of 2.05" set a new record for Christmas Eve.  In addition, it boosted us to # 7 wettest Decembers  resulting us to fall to the 3rd driest year at MSY.  Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas, but to those who suffer illness or the loss of a loved one, Peace.  May your Faith give you the courage to continue on this journey.  Stay tuned!
