When I went to sleep last night, winds were rocking & computer models were bringing a line of storms across SE LA/MS between 3-6 AM. That proved to be correct, but rainfall was spotty with only .19" at my house while MSY received 1.14". SPC had a Tornado Watch up for the North Shore through 2 AM, but they did not issue a new one farther to the east. Why? What happened to our severe threat? All I can think of is the upper energy associated with a broad Rockies trough raced to the NE away from us. In addition, the southern stream (sub-tropical) weakened and shifted farther to the south.
Our predawn storms are now over Georgia with a trailing line clearing the Florida beaches. As the low pulls into Wisconsin, it is taking the clouds with it reveling an extensive snow cover. That fresh snow cover allowed morning lows to plunge over the northern Plains & Rockies, feeling more like mid Winter that early Spring.
The reason I like living down south is, once our cloud cover leaves, the higher sun angle quickly moderates the cold temperatures.
So while we warmed back into the 70s, our friends up north are still in their heavy weather gear.
Since no new fronts are coming for the rest of this week, our weather will be the envy of the nation.
Right now, the Easter sunrise weather looks to be near perfect. Next week sees warmer temperatures come back, so get out and enjoy the next couple of days. Stay tuned!
