At the surface, we have a NNW flow of drier air (light blue arrows), but up where the pilots fly the winds are from the SW (Lime green arrows). Those upper winds will shift more out of the west for Sunday thinning some of the high clouds allowing for more sunshine & a brighter day.
The top view clearly shows the upper dip in the jet stream is over the Great Lakes with the southern (sub-tropical) stream remaining out of the SW. That keeps any really cold air away from us. Fact of the matter is there is no really cold air in the lower 48 as most northern locations are above freezing. The lower dew points for us should allow night time lows to dip into 40s North Shore & low 50s south.
When you add in brisk northerly winds, you'll want jackets & sweaters if you're going out tonight.
The next 2 days should be slightly cooler than normal/average, but IF you're dressed for it, we're in for a nice dry stretch. Finally,
Even though I see no "Polar Vortex" developing in the next 10-14 days, Arctic air (30-40 below) is pouring across the North Pole into Alaska. There will be a sharp dip in the upper flow over the East Coast in the 7-10 day time frame, but that upper trough doesn't close off and bring the really cold air to us. We still have many more opportunities to wear sweaters and coats before you know what arrives! Stay tuned and set those clocks!
