National Weather Service Now Says Tornado Was EF-2.

FOX 8 Sportscaster Sean Frazende often says, "after further review" when discussing a play.  Yesterday, the NWS indicated the Slidell tornado was an EF-1 strength.  Today, they went back and (based on damage) "after further review" increased the strength to an EF-2.  Here's the preliminary map put out by NWS through FOX 8 Meteorologist Amber Wheeler.

Note the tornado touchdown at 10:03 AM and only lasted 9 minutes before lifting back up.  The path was 9.3 miles, which shows you why these brief, short lived tornadoes are difficult to predict well in advance.  Thanks to Doppler Radar, warnings can be issued before the funnel even touches down.  No such problems today.

After a cloudy start, skies cleared and brisk NW winds are bringing in drier, good feel air. The slow moving upper low/trough is sped up and is lifting quickly away from us.

Wrap around clouds and showers are making it a chilly day for many over the eastern states.

As the low pulls away, an upper high will shift over us making for a great stretch of weather extending into next week.

Clear skies and drier air mean the nights will be comfy cool through the weekend.  The higher sun angle will quickly take the chill out of the air with daytime highs getting into the 80s by Saturday.  Hopefully, Jazz Fest & the Zurich Classic will have such nice weather later this month.

Finally, with all the recent rains here and over the Ohio Valley, this week's Drought Monitor has none of Louisiana included in drought.  Yesterday's deluge is NOT included in the data.  Not surprisingly, the Mississippi River has a crest coming down that will increase the Carrollton gage to 10+ feet.  Since our levee protection on the river is 20+ feet, we should have no problems.  Enjoy the feel.  Stay tuned!
